Tragedy : Ecobank Manager In Ghana Shot Dead

A 40- year-old manager of Ecobank, Seth Akyea, has been shot dead by three unidentified persons at his residence at Kasoa.

Seth Akyea until his death was the Operations Manager at the Cantoments Branch of the bank.

The incident occurred around 9.30 pm last Friday.

Seth Akyea was killed when he arrived home from work at Kasoa New Market in the Central Region.

A prophet with a ‘White Garment’ church in a suburb of Lagos, identified simply as ‘Woli Adesoji’, has reportedly died during sex with the wife of his close friend and an elder in the church.

It was my childhood determination. When I look up and see planes flying and making noise , I was like, God, I have to be a pilot. And it helped me in the sense that the kind of movies I watched, one of the movies was Starship Trooper. There was a lot of discouragement from my parents and other people. They assumed that if you are a lady and you are a pilot, you may not marry, you can’t cope with marriage. So, when I saw a lady in that Starship Trooper, I was moved. I said wow, if this girl can fly, then I can fly. And I put it into prayers, despite all the obstacles and discouragement.

Sourceted cultists yesterday August 4th shot dead a student of the Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education, AIFUE ,in Owerii Imo state. The cult members reportedly pursued the victim from the school premises into the Federal Medical Center Owerri where he was shot at close range. He died instantly. His body has been deposited at the morgue while police have started investigations into the killing.

Boko Haram initiates moves for dialogue – CCC

The Executive Secretary of the Center for Crisis Communication CCC, Air Commodore Yusuf Anas (rtd) says Boko Haram members have made contacts with the center to initiate dialogue with the federal government on how to stop their activities in Nigeria.

This comes after President Buhari stated in a recent CNN interview that he's open for dialogue with the sect members.Air Comodore Anas said this during a press briefing in Abuja today August 4th.

Buhari Appoints ExxonMobil Vice-chair as new NNPC GMD

According to a statement released by presidential spokesperson, president Buhari has appointed Dr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu as the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). Dr. Kachikwu, who was the Executive Vice Chairman and General Counsel of Exxon-Mobil (Africa), is to take over from Dr. Joseph Thlama Dawha.

Dr. Kachikwu hails from Onicha-Ugbo in Delta State. He is a first class graduate of Law from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and the Nigerian Law School. The new NNPC Chief Executive also has Masters and Doctorate Degrees in Law from the Harvard Law School.

Buhari calls for inclusion of Islamic books in federal schools’ Curriculum

President Buhari has called on the Federal Ministry of Education to include two Islamic Studies books written by the late Justice Muhammad Bashir Sambo in the secondary school curriculum for all Federal Government Colleges.

14 Contestants Qualify For MTN Project Fame Academy

14 lucky contestants have made it to the prestigious MTN Project Fame Academy after thousands of
hopeful youths went through the hurdles of making it to the Academy through the various auditions
held across the country.
The final contestants were unveiled at the Opening Gala that delivered on its promise of excitement and fun.
The event featured thrilling performances not only from Nigeria’s brightest upcoming talents but past winners of the competition including Iyanya, Chidinma amongst others.

12 out of the 18 contestants that made it to the opening gala night were given automatic qualification to the academy based on their sterling performances from the regional auditions that held in Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Accra and Ibadan by the panel of judges comprising Ade Bantu, Bibie Brew and Tee Y- Mix without having to perform at the Opening Gala.

Deborah Ohiri Oluwamayowa,  Jeffrey Ufedo Akor, Jennifer Chioma Amadi, Adanoritsewo Gold Tosanwumi,   Funmilayo Comfort Arewa, Stephen Sackitey, Okletey Biko, Joy Chukwuma, Olanma Pearl Awa-Agwu, Amma Korantema Kumi, Richie Tay and Tejiri Odjighoro are the contestants that entered the academy seamlessly.

Deinde Okubajo and Emmanuel Amos Anderson were selected by the panel of Judges to join their peers in the Academy after going through a keenly contested session of performances to prove their worth.
The winner of the competition will walk away with a grand prize of N5m, a brand new SUV and a
recording deal worth millions of Naira. The 1st runner up will get a saloon car and N3m. The 2nd runner up will be awarded a brand new saloon car along with N1m while the 3rd runner up will receive a cash prize of N1m.

Speaking on the event, General Manager, Consumer Marketing, MTN Nigeria, Richard Iweanoge, stated that Project Fame was one of MTN’s platforms dedicated to supporting the growth of music in the country through talent discovery. “MTN has an unwavering commitment towards supporting the

In a statement issued on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Habib Aruna, the appointments are in line with the Governor’s drive to restructure the civil service for efficient performance and service delivery. The development is also coming on the heels of the streamlining of some existing Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) aimed at ensuring greater efficiency. 

The new Permanent Secretaries, the statement said, have been deployed across board in the new structure of the civil service.

INEC office in Abia burnt down

The office of the Independent National Electoral Commission at Obingwa Local Government of Abia state was razed today August 2nd by some hoodlums. Residents of the community say the fire outbreak was politically motivated as suspected political thugs armed with knives, cutlasses and guns stormed the local government before setting the electoral office on fire. This action comes ahead of the August 10th date fixed for the commencement of the state election tribunal. Results from the local government is among many issues that is strongly being contested.

Nigerian Air Force/army successfully repels attack on Borno village

A competent source told Saturday Vanguard that the decision to withdraw the official passports of the former aides of Dr Jonathan was to prevent misuse and conflict with new aides and officials of President Muhammadu Buhari, who assumed duties on May 29, 2015.

Union wants abandoned airplane removed

The Air Transport Senior Staff Services Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) on Friday called for the removal of abandoned aircraft parked at aprons across the country's airports.ATSSSAN's President, Mr Benjamin Okewu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the call was necessitated by 2 recent ground collision incidents by aircrafts at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos.

NAN reports that a Boeing 777-200LR belonging to Emirates Airline and a B737-400 owned by HAK Air collided on July 6 at the airport.

A similar incident involving two aircraft belonging to First Nation Airways aircraft occurred at the same airport on July 17 when an A319 taxiing into the terminal hit another parked A319 aircraft at the apron.

Okewu told NAN that the apron at the Lagos airport was congested, especially at the General Aviation Terminal (GAT), due to several unserviceable aircraft of some airlines that were abandoned there. 

He said that some people received `political` Air Operating Certificates (AOCs) and their aircraft had not flown for one day, but were abandoned at the apron.
